Why having career uncertainties may be a good thing.
With the start of a new year, it's normal to reassess our current career trajectory and reevaluate our professional development. But don't worry, we are here to help you.
In a recent PWC report that surveyed more than 52,000 workers from 44 countries, 53% of the respondents stated that they would seek a new job within the next months. Sounds familiar? You’re not alone. The study also found that professionals in the tech sector seek more job security and higher salaries.
Being uncertain about making a career change in a volatile market like tech is normal. But, that shouldn’t restrain you from exploring new opportunities. P.S.: Take these recommendations with a grain of salt and be diligent when considering changing your career path.
It's time to get that bag 💰
Tech salaries are increasing globally. The IT labor market has significantly tightened the last two years, making it difficult for companies to attract and retain talent. Therefore, the Gartner IT Compensation Poll of 130 CFOs and CEOs from around the world found that 50% of organizations reported increasing salaries to retain employees.
Bonus Benefits.
It’s essential to consider the overall compensation package, which often includes non-financial benefits. These vary from company to company, and some organizations have better employee benefits than others, and if chosen correctly, it can impact your financial compensation.
Options such as health insurance or commuting discounts can impact your salary value. Also, it’s important to consider that in some companies, employees are offered more flexibility around working hours and location as part of a benefits package.
More time to get grips of the role.
Compared to the fast-paced environment companies face throughout the year, January is usually slower – which may benefit you. New employees can take this time to get their heads around their responsibilities, procedures, and how things operate.
Flexibility.
Do you want more flexibility on how and when you work? The CNN reported that according to the organizers of the global pilot program, about 97% of the 495 employees who responded said they prefer a four-day work week. The study found that this increased workers' and companies' productivity and profitability. Luckily, tech companies are ahead of the curve and are embracing true flexibility for workers.
