Let's go back to the future

Congrats if you instantly thought about the movie; you have great taste. Now let's get back to the topic. As humans and technology continue to evolve, it's not surprising that we have made advancements that affect our outlook on life and how we interact with technology. The year 2023 is full of advances and changes, so buckle up and get in the car (sorry, we are done with movie puns).

High tech is evolving rapidly, enabling faster changes and progress, making professionals realize their roles will change. Therefore, out of necessity, professionals in the upcoming years will constantly be learning, unlearning, and relearning. What does this mean for me? Staying up to date with current emerging technologies and trends is essential.

The future of artificial intelligence

AI is constantly changing and influencing our lives. Reportedly 75% of CEOs fear their companies will fail without its use. The reality is that AI is shaping the future of humanity across nearly every industry, and it's the primary driver of emerging technologies like big data, robotics, and IoT. This year's stats reveal that its global market revenue will reach $432.8 billion and break $500 billion in 2023. This unprecedented growth in AI will enable next-gen consumer experiences since this technology allows for the metaverse and cryptocurrencies, both mega booms in the industry. One of the disadvantages is that it will replace 7% of jobs since AI has the potential to learn much more quickly and efficiently. Therefore, the use of AI in emerging technologies continues to advance rapidly. San Francisco-based OpenAI made its latest creation, the ChatGPT chatbot, a software application designed to mimic human-like conversation by producing accurate and harmless talk (psst, it’s available for free public testing ).

We tried the chat, and this was its response. It answers follow-up questions, admits mistakes, challenges incorrect premises, and rejects inappropriate requests. Have you tried it? Tag us and show us your chats!

Up in the clouds

A new technology trend to watch is cloud computing, with major players like AWS (Amazon Web Services), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform dominating the market. The cloud applications market is worth over $150 billion as businesses continue to migrate to cloud solutions. A study from O'Reilly found that more than 90% of organizations use the cloud. From those statistics, 47% are pursuing a cloud-first strategy, 30% are already cloud-native, and 37% intend to be cloud-native in about three years. Cloud-based assignments account for 75% of workloads in 1 out of 5 organizations, and cloud adoption among enterprise organizations is over 94%.

But how will this change in the upcoming years? It will keep growing, especially since studies have shown that cloud infrastructure services generate revenue of $178 billion annually. In 2023, public cloud services will reach almost $600 billion. Gartner's latest projections state a 20.7% increase from 2022's $490.3 billion - higher than the previously forecast 18.8% growth for that year.Nevertheless, all the data in the cloud still needs a physical home, and cloud data centers contain millions of servers that need to transmit data throughout the cloud. Cloud data centers' global energy consumption by next year could jump to 8%.

What is the future of cybersecurity?

Nowadays, cybersecurity is top of mind for businesses amid a relentless rise in cyber threats. Therefore, it has risen to the top of the corporate agenda. According to research from Gartner, 88% of boards now regard cybersecurity as a business risk and will drive changes to strategies and workplace policies in the coming years. By 2025, 80% of enterprises will adopt an approach to unify web, cloud services, and private application access from a single vendor's security service edge platform. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, cybercrime will cost the world $8 trillion annually.Humanity is engaging with technology like never before, but this has a downside: digital threats and crime increase. Global cybercrime will grow 15% per year in the next three years and studies have shown that 58% of adults are more worried than ever about being a victim of cybercrime. In comparison, 78% are concerned about data privacy, and 63% of consumers are alarmed more than ever about their privacy. Almost 68% of business leaders feel their risk of a cyberattack is increasing.

As a consequence, organizations are heavily investing in cybersecurity. This statistic is also critical since 59% of consumers will likely avoid companies suffering from cyberattacks.

"In a busy market, not standing out is the same as being invisible." - Seth Godin, writer, and former business executive.

"Em um mercado movimentado, não se destacar é o mesmo que ser invisível". “En un mercado de gran actividad, no destacarse es lo mismo que ser invisible”.

As the data shows in this newsletter, 2023 will be a year of significant changes in tech, and being prepared is essential to stand out in the competition. Therefore, individuals have to find ways to stand out to be able to compete. If not, it’s possible to become invisible.
