Let’s get technical...   Halloween might be over, but we decided to scare you for a little longer . Yes, tech hiring processes are not easy, so it's better to be prepared, starting with the all-time famous technical assessment.

Companies have a dynamic and broad hiring process to find the perfect candidate. Multiple organizations use technical assessment tests to find highly qualified candidates (we are talking to you!). Nevertheless, understanding why and which types of technical assessments they use can give you a heads-up to prepare for your next technical aptitude test.

  1. 100% Code Coverage.

Code tests are assessments used to filter candidates at the early stages of the hiring process. This is done by measuring a candidate’s aptitude for problem-solving skills and understanding of coding using a binary pass-or-fail system. Therefore, candidates are expected to write and run their solutions from the exam. Many types of coding assessments vary between roles. The most common are Hackerrank, Codility, and CodeSignal.

Our top recommendation? Be wary of typos. Your solution could include the perfect algorithm and data structure, but you are out if there is even one misprint. Practice that and thank us later

  2. Take-home Technical Assessment

A technical assessment is a coding take-home test assigned by your potential employer to evaluate your technical skills and knowledge. More often than not, these tasks are usually complex, so candidates have multiple days (or weeks) to complete them. These challenges occasionally include similar questions as code tests to assess algorithms and data structure knowledge, but sometimes, the additional time allows the recruiter to evaluate how applicants build or extend applications.

  3. Technical Interviews

This type of assessment has the most human interaction of them all. Since it’s an interview to measure your expertise, the questions will primarily center around the job description (so keep that in hand!). What is tested here is your ability to guide your interviewer with the solutions to the questions. They want to evaluate your thought process, technique, and communication skills.

How to practice for this interview? Help a friend navigate new technology or explain a particular process and ask them to explain it again to you.

When you start a new hiring process, don’t be afraid to ask about the type of technical assessment you’ll need to undertake. Remember, it’s not just about the code. Soft skills like effective communication, time management, and organization will help you ace the challenge. You’ve got this!
